FAQ. Straight answers.

Ten questions we get most often. Plain answers. No marketing dance.

  1. 01

    Is VetsLearn really free?

The public lessons and reference pages are free to read without an account. Full prompt libraries are also free with a VetsLearn account; public samples are available without signing in. External AI tools and APIs may have their own costs. Accounts are optional for the lessons and provide progress and profile features. Cohorts, SkillBridge placements, and VET TEC enrollment or funding are not currently offered through VetsLearn.

  2. 02

Who is it for if I'm not in the military or a veteran?

Anyone who wants to actually use AI for work and is tired of hype. The lessons are written for veterans because that's the author's lane, but the material is plain enough that anyone can use it.

The Operator framing translates outside the military fine. It's just clear thinking about context, task, and standards. Civilians read it as 'how to be specific in writing.' Same skill.

The Annex A (Cleared) and Annex B (Leadership) tracks lean federal. If you're a commercial software engineer, you may skim those and focus on Intermediate and Expert.

  3. 03

Do I need to be technical to start?

No. Foundations assumes nothing. If you can use email and a web browser, you can do Foundations.

Intermediate is where it turns technical. You'll install Python, call APIs, and write small programs. We teach the minimum you need. If you've never coded, expect to put in real time there.

Expert assumes you finished Intermediate or have equivalent experience. It's for people building production AI systems. Don't jump there cold.

  4. 04

How long does the foundations tier take?

Foundations has seven lessons. Work through them at your own pace and make time for the practice exercises. Each lesson lists its authored reading and drill estimates; actual time depends on the task you choose and how much practice you do. These estimates are guidance, not a guaranteed completion time.

  5. 05

    Do you offer certifications?

VetsLearn does not offer a professional certification or accredited credential. The open curriculum includes practice questions and exercises. Account progress and profile badges are completion or identity indicators, not a professional license, third-party certification, or proof of independently assessed competence. The Cleared track discusses external certifications; reading that guidance does not award one.

  6. 06

Is there a cohort or community?

The public curriculum is self-study material. Instructor-led cohorts and a VetsLearn learning community are not currently offered. Cohort enrollment is unavailable, and no schedule, price, instructor services, or opening date has been announced. Contact the project if you have a question about current availability.

  7. 07

Can I share these lessons with my unit or team?

Yes. Share the links. Forward them to a battle buddy, a transition class, a contracting team, a hiring manager.

Teaching from the lessons in a class or program is allowed. See Terms.

Don't copy the lessons onto your own site without attribution. Linking is fine. Forking the content is not.

  8. 08

Do you take government, contracting, or partnership inquiries?

You can use the contact page for government, contracting, or partnership inquiries. Explain what you are asking for and the relevant timeline. An inquiry does not establish a partnership, provider approval, funded enrollment, or a training contract. VetsLearn does not currently offer SkillBridge placements or VET TEC enrollment or funding.

  9. 09

What if I find a mistake?

Tell us. The curriculum is being actively maintained. If a fact is wrong, a link is dead, or a piece of guidance has aged out, that's a fix we want to make.

Use the feedback link on the lesson page, or email the project. Specifics help: which lesson, which sentence, what you think the correct version is.

We maintain a public-ish changelog so updates aren't silent. If you spot something, you've done the project a favor.

  10. 10

How do I support the project?

Read the lessons, practice the exercises, and share links with someone who would find them useful. Report mistakes with the page link and the specific passage. Organizations can use the contact page for inquiries; no funded program or training partnership is implied.
